How you apply to Summer School depends on what type of student you are. Select the student type below that best fits you and follow the application instructions.

Continuing ASU Students

You are a continuing student if you are/were enrolled in academic courses during the spring semester prior to the summer term.

Returning ASU Students

You are a returning student if you:

Have been out for one or more semesters and plan to continue in your studies at Appalachian as a degree-seeking student (either as a graduate or an undergraduate), or

If you have previously attended Appalachian and plan to apply to one of the following categories:

• Initial Teacher Licensure (Certification)
• Renewal Teacher Licensure (Certification)

Visiting or Non-Degree Students Who Have Previously Attended ASU

You previously completed a semester or summer session at ASU as an undergraduate and you plan to return to your parent institution after the summer school program, or

You previously completed a semester or summer session at ASU and now wish to take a course for your own edification.

Visiting or Non-Degree Students Who Have Never Attended ASU

You are a visiting student if you have never attended Appalachian before and you plan to return to your parent institution after your summer school program or

You are a non-degree student if you have not enrolled in an institution of higher education and wish to take a course for your own edification.

New Undergraduate Students

You are a new undergraduate student if you have never attended Appalachian before and you wish to apply to an undergraduate degree program, for Initial Teacher Licensure (Certification), or Renewal Teacher Licensure (Certification).

New undergraduate students also include those who have graduate credit from Appalachian but have never taken an undergraduate course at Appalachian before.

Prospective Graduate Students

You are a prospective graduate student if you have never attended Appalachian before and you wish to apply to a graduate degree program, graduate certificate program, or as a non-degree student taking graduate level courses.
